Turks
in Britain Turkish nationals living in the UK mostly live
in London (Islington, Hackney, Harringey, Stoke Newington, Turnpike
Lane, Newington Green in the North as well as Peckham and Lewisham
in the South), Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Leeds areas.
In the 1991 census, over 26,000 people declared their place of birth
as Turkey. Yet, this number does not reflect the correct number
of the Turkish community residing in the UK, since those who were
born in the UK were not included. Please note that approximately
130,000 nationals of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, whose
mother tongue is Turkish, are living in the UK as well.
Further information about Turkish community living in the UK can
be obtained from HM Home Office Research and Statistic Department
