19 June 2008, Regarding the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt. (Unofficial Translation)

As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, we welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, achieved as a result of the talks conducted under Egypt’s mediation, encompassing the Gaza Strip and its entry into force this morning.

Turkey calls on all parties concerned to adhere to commitments they have undertaken within the framework of the ceasefire and to make it an enduring one.

We hope that this step, which we expect will rescue the Israeli and Palestinian peoples from the spiral of horror and terror, will be a turning point for the improvement of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as well as establishment of peace and prosperity in the Middle East.
