Tropical cyclone Nargis which occurred on 3-4 May 2008 in Myanmar has caused the death of tens of thousands of people, with tens of thousands more missing. The disaster has created a huge financial loss and has led to significant rises in food and oil prices.

In this regard, our Government has decided to extend to Myanmar humanitarian assistance in the amount of 1,000,000 USD in the aftermath of these developments.

This amount is being conveyed expeditiously.

Also, the Turkish Red Crescent is dispatching a team to Myanmar in order to assess the situation on the ground, with a view to providing further assistance.”
