02 May 2008, Press Statement Regarding the Turkey-EU Ministeria Ministerial Troika meeting hosted by Mr. Ali Babacan in Ankara 6 May 2008. (Unofficial Translation)


Turkey-EU Ministerial Troika meeting hosted by Mr. Ali Babacan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will take place in Ankara on May 6, 2008.

At the meeting, the EU Troika will be represented by Mr. Dimitrij Rupel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenian Presidency, Mr. Jean-Pierre Jouyet, State Secretary in charge of European Affairs for the upcoming French Presidency, Mr. Olli Rehn Commissioner of Enlargement from the European Commission and officials from the Council. Turkey ’s reform and EU accession processes as well as current international and regional developments will be discussed during the meeting.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Dimitrij Rupel, accompanied by a delegation, will pay a visit to Turkey on May 5, 2008 prior to the Turkey-EU Ministerial Troika Meeting. Minister Rupel will be received by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Gül, President of the Republic of Turkey , Mr. Köksal Toptan, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Primer Minister fo the Republic of Turkey . During the meetings, an extensive exchange of views will take place on bilateral relations, Turkey's EU membership as well as regional and international issues.

The French State Secretary in charge of European Affairs Mr. Jean Pierre Jouyet will take part in the Troika meeting, will be received by President Abdullah Gül, will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and attend a working dinner in his honor by the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan. State Minister Jouyet on 7 May will have several meetings in the Parliament. Issues pertaining to the EU Presidency which France will assume on 1 July 2008, and Turkish-French relations will be taken up during the visit of State Secretary Jouyet.

Foreign Minister Babacan will also meet with Commissioner Olli Rehn, and discuss the current situation in Turkey ’s full membership process, as well as possible developments in the period ahead.
